However, according to a Swedish study, led by Mary Alberg of Institution of Neuroscience and Physiology, has found that young people with physical fitness score higher on intelligence tests.

According to studies conducted with rodents physical exercise improves memory and cognition. This work is the first to reveal an association between cardio respiratory endurance and improving cognitive abilities.

This research comprised 1,221,727 Swedes born between 1950 and 1976. They had enlisted for military service. All were evaluated for their resistance cardio respiratory and muscle strength at 15 and 18 (at the time of entering military service). In addition, they conducted a series of intelligence tests.

The data clearly show that those with better physical condition were those who scored higher on intelligence tests, especially in logical thinking and verbal comprehension.
