The brain, of which two thirds are composed of fatty acids is extremely greedy in Omega 3. During pregnancy, the fetal nervous system develops through the fatty acids from the mother. But as an adult, the brain still needs these essential elements, since they ensure the smooth functioning of neurotransmitters energy and good humor. The fatty acid precursor of the Omega-3 family, the alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), can not be synthesized by our body. And if our body is able to transform ALA into two other fatty acids Omega, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), this is especially tricky. The fatty acids contained in foods therefore represent the main source.

The alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is found in vegetable oils like rapeseed oil, walnut oil, flaxseed oil, the oil of wheat germ … but also in nuts and peanuts in some legumes (peas, sesame seeds) and some vegetables (corn salad, purslane, spinach).

Many fish and seafood contain EPA and DHA, but they are oily fish that are richest. The kings of Omega 3 include: salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and eel.
