The benefits of nuts in the diet

Friday, January 15th, 2010

nuts

They are small in size but very important in good nutrition. Besides being very rich, the nuts have protein, fiber and key nutrients for heart health. We are talking primarily of nuts, peanuts, almonds and cashews.

Each has properties that distinguish them: almonds are rich in Vitamin E and Calcium, Zinc chestnuts, peanuts have protein and nuts possess antioxidant and alpha linolenic acid, a component of Omega-3 acid. But all provide benefits for heart care.

According to a study by Nurses’ Health, those who eat 140 grams of nuts a week are 35% less chance of heart problems than those who eat less than 30 grams per week. Similarly, another study found that people who eat these little fruit four times a week are half as likely to suffer a heart attack than those who eat once a week.

Nuts bear the bad reputation that easily because they have many fat calories (180 in 30 grams). Anyway, everything is relative in terms of food: eating nuts or peanuts alone is not fattening but must take into account your overall diet and, if complemented by physical activity.

In closing I leave you some tips for when you eat these beneficial results:

* Try to be in moderate amounts, such as entering in your hand and not a bag, because they contain lots of calories

* Take the opportunity to eat them as snacks between meals to calm the hunger

* Eat different types of nuts

* Varies with almond butter or nuts are not as common as peanut

Soy compounds may not prevent bone loss

Soy compounds may not prevent bone loss

Supplements containing soy isoflavone might not be effective in preserving bone mass in women after menopause.

In a study of more than 200 women between 46 and 65 years, researchers found that soy supplementation seemed to prevent bone loss during 3 years.

In general, women who took the supplement showed the same degree of bone loss than those taking placebo, although there was some evidence that higher doses helped protect bone density in the hips.

The findings, reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, adds to a conflicting body of research on soy and postmenopausal bone health.

Some studies suggest that soy-based foods, isolated soy protein or isoflavone supplements could be beneficial, while others do not find helpful. (more…)

Child Nutritions

Theories Flanged confirm that food for our mothers and grandmothers to feed properly as kids seem to be right. Proper nutrition and diet during pregnancy, infancy and childhood are key factors determining health in later life stages.
This is shown by recent scientific studies, which determined that nutrition in childhood set the course of subsequent physical and mental development.

To discuss this subject was held the International Symposium on Nutritional Planning, held late last November in Barcelona. Organized by a company that specializes in child nutrition, the conference brought together more than 240 pediatricians, pediatric gastroenterologists, nutritionists and researchers from 21 different countries who came forward some of the current nutrition guidelines for children.

The general concept is that well-fed child will be a happy child and a healthy adult. (Dr. Tomo-Pediatric Gastroenterologist-Barcelona)

Nutritional Planning
This new concept, the result of the latest scientific, refers to the amount and variety of nutrients that children must receive to achieve a smooth and proper growth to reach their adult stage. On this issue, the focus of nutrition scientists has changed radically since the food previously focused on nutritional needs, the focus is now on the biological effects that nutrition has on health throughout life. The most important point to remember is after breastfeeding when complementary feeding begins, this period begins neuronal proliferation and development of the central nervous system, hence that diets low in fat and dairy products result in decreased smooth.

These aspects are important to prevent some bad habits that are emerging in recent years. The habits of the mothers of today have changed and it is transferred directly to feeding their children resulted in lower consumption of beans and vegetables for the benefit of fast food. Nor drink so much milk, milk intake decreased after the bottle and it seriously impairs the child’s growth.
